Collection: Bonsai

Bonsai is the art of creating miniature trees, growing them for years in a small pot. With this particular technique, the plant is directed, during the growth process, to assume the desired shapes and dimensions, while fully respecting its vegetative and functional balance. The term "bonsai" is Japanese and is made up of two ideograms 盆栽: the first (bon) means "basin", "bowl", while the second (sai) means "to plant". (wikipedia)
My photographic research creates bonsai with a different technique. The desire is to enclose a tree of ordinary dimensions in the frame, isolate it from the context and give it a new home within my painting. Cultivate in a frame, in short, but leaving the tree free to grow according to its natural development. Unlike the living and continuously, slowly evolving bonsai, my bonsai are still lifes that have the intent to stop the viewer to contemplate the harmony of the forms, the complexity and the beauty of these magnificent living sculptures.
