Bonsai is the art of creating miniature trees, grown for years in small pots.
Through this age-old practice, the tree is accompanied in its growth to assume precise shapes and proportions, always respecting its natural balance. The Japanese term "bonsai" combines the characters 盆 (bon), “pot”, and 栽 (sai), “to plant”.
My photographic research gives life to a different form of bonsai. I don't use scissors or wires, but the frame. I look for trees in the landscape—common trees, in their real scale—and I isolate them, I welcome them in a new visual dimension. I uproot them from the context, but not from their essence. It is a way of cultivating in a frame, allowing their ideal growth to continue, even if crystallized in the moment of the shot.
Unlike living bonsai, which slowly change over time, mine are still lifes. But not lifeless for this: they are invitations to contemplation. To the grace of forms. To the silent strength. To the complex beauty of these living sculptures.
