The book Verona Renova tells the story of a unique photographic project for the city of Verona; it was created in April 2020, when most people were forced to stay at home for safety reasons.
In that particular moment, I decided to take the opportunity to photograph the city in a new guise, never seen before, poignant but beautiful at the same time. I observed Verona as something new, Re nova precisely, in the Latin anagram of Verona that I chose as the title for my book. A city without the human element, a city made only of architecture.
Time seemed to have stopped and the silence was deafening. And this silence is the common thread of all my shots.
In a period that has marked the history and personal lives of all of us, I had the privilege of observing and photographing a Verona that very few have seen in this dimension: pure, simple, silent. From this dramatic moment its beauty has re-emerged, often hidden by the noise and frenzy of our existences; as if the city had reclaimed its space.
Alessandro Gloder was born in Verona in 1976 where he works and lives with his wife Elisa and his two children Emma and Teo. He developed a passion for photography during his architecture studies and has never stopped taking pictures since.
He has explored various sectors: from photography
commercial to architecture, from advertising still life to art photography. In 2012, with his wife, he fulfilled his dream of traveling around the world by land and sea and in almost a year of travel he created numerous photographic projects. For over 15 years he has developed the giclée printing technique and specialized in fine art prints of his works. In 2019 he opened his photography gallery in the historic center of Verona where he exhibited his works. In April 2020 he created
a photographic campaign of the city during the lockdown, documenting a Verona devoid of people. In 2021 he published Verona
Renova, his first photography book.
